Proposal for AWR competitions 2012 Tirana Multimodal Station, by PHORMIN’
Tirana, a city that has changed enormously during the last years , a modern city with the same needs and flows as every other european city, is confronting a big disadvantage, the problematic infrastructure in the field of transport. therefore it seems that it can’t follow the requirements of the modern society, rhythms and needs completely. the city has been pushed to its limits, not only with the regard to its size, but also in terms of its structural agreement. it is a fact, that the albanian capital city is nowdays expanding to all directions, so the reconsidering of the city charakter as an international node is unevitable. a direkt airport connection, a railway connection to neighbour countries, an intern electric tramline and bus connections could set the precondition of future sane developement.
character of the new multifunctional central station:
as a transportation node- trains
terminus for the international connections
transit station for the national connections
tramstation for the intern connection of the city
central station for national and international connections
as a nature node- park
introduction of the green line along the rails in the installation
formation of a garden for outdoor activities as a recovery
rest and pleasure ground
as a cultural node- employees
administrativ functions of the central stations- offices on the top levels
passengers and locals- retail and gastronomy spaces
urban intergration and association:
the site is located in an undefined structure, where the nearby sorroundings have various scales and functions. the north side appartment buildings obtain small scales, in contrast to the big scale southern industrial unities. the two big streets appear to divide the site in functions.
intention of the new composition is to reflect the small scale unities of the sorroundings and through their addition to create a big scale structure, which intergrates with ist enviroment.
construction and design
the selection of vaults and arcs as structural elements provides the possibility of big spans and creates a modern interpretation of local traditional architectural quality.
